Christmas may have come and gone, but most kids in Calgary don't go back to school for at least another week. Your precious little angels are already bored of all their Christmas presents, and you long-ago stopped trying to limit their consumption of holiday treats (legitimate food groups this time of year, according to one holiday expert). Struggling to imagine how you'll make it through the next week in one piece? Here are some fun activity ideas with children during winter break:

  1. Build a fort: Gather blankets, pillows, and cushions to create a cozy fort to play in.
  2. Have a movie marathon: Snuggle up with blankets and pillows to watch a series of movies or TV shows.
  3. Have a snowball fight: Bundle up and head outside to have a good old-fashioned snowball fight.
  4. Go ice skating: Check out one of the conventient rinks in and around the community, or venture a bit further to one of these popular ice skating rinks in Calgary. Don't forget your helmets!
  5. Have a bake-off: Gather ingredients and recipes to have a baking competition.
  6. Play board games: Break out the board games for a fun afternoon of indoor competition. Our family favourite at the moment is Yahtzee.
  7. Do a puzzle: Find a challenging puzzle to work on together.
  8. Have a craft day: Gather supplies and try out a new craft project together.
  9. Go on a nature hike: Bundle up and head outside to explore the winter landscape.
  10. Play indoor games: Set up an indoor obstacle course or try out some indoor games like tag or hide and seek.

These are just a few ideas, and there are many other fun and creative things you can do with children during the winter months. The important thing is to stay active together, and have fun!
