What is chiropractic?
Doctors of Chiropractic assess, diagnose, treat and help prevent musculoskeletal (bones, muscles, tendons, joints and cartilage) conditions and disorders. A Chiropractor is specially trained to treat these conditions and the effect they have on the nervous system.
The traditional form of treatment chiropractors can deliver is called an adjustment. An adjustment is a non-invasive procedure consisting of a precise directed movement to help relieve pain and discomfort, and to restore range of motion. At Energize Health, our Chiropractors will also incorporate other treatment methods such as soft-tissue manipulation, instrument assisted techniques, exercises, joint mobilizations and more.
A chiropractor may refer patients for x-rays or ultrasounds to assist in forming an accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment plan. Chiropractors do not prescribe drugs nor do they perform surgery, but they may make a referral to other medical specialists for such treatment when appropriate.
Chiropractors receive very thorough, well rounded health education and training and may also counsel patients regarding nutrition, lifestyle and exercise.

Frequently Asked Questions about Chiropractic
Is chiropractic safe?
All of our Chiropractors are specialists in the manual adjustment of the joints of the body. With over 7 years of post secondary education, they are highly skilled at diagnosing and treating all musculoskeletal injuries. Before beginning any treatment program with you, your Chiropractor will fully educate you on the benefits and any associated risks of the proposed treatment and will provide you with the opportunity to ask any questions. All treatment techniques that our Chiropractors use have been researched in multidisciplinary, peer-reviewed, scientific studies, and are shown to be safe and effective.
The Mayo Clinic's view on chiropractic safety is that a "Chiropractic adjustment is safe when it's performed by someone trained and licensed to deliver chiropractic care."
My First Appointment: What can I expect?
The chiropractic team at Energize Health takes a very thorough approach to their clinical practice. Before your appointment, you will be asked to fill out an intake form (online or in the clinic) which will provide your clinician with an overview of your current health status. You will be asked about any areas of pain, discomfort and/or injury, your health goals, and medical history for both yourself and your family members.
During your first visit, your doctor will conduct a thorough assessment which may include assessing your posture, gait, range of motion, reflexes, and other orthopaedic and neurological tests. Your chiropractor may also give you a referral for diagnostic imaging such as x-ray and/or ultrasound. By compiling all of this information, your clinician is able to determine a diagnosis for your current health status.
Your chiropractic doctor will then explain her diagnosis, recommended treatment plan and expected outcomes. She will answer any questions you have before you receive treatment.
A chiropractic treatment is included as part of your first visit. This treatment may include soft tissue manipulation, joint mobilization or manipulation, therapeutic exercises and/or many other therapeutic interventions.
At the end of your visit, your chiropractor will provide her recommendation for any follow up appointment(s) if needed. You can expect your first visit to be approximately one hour.
To help you reach your health goals faster, we use Physitrack, an advanced exercise prescription software. Your chiropractor can email you a link to download a customized exercise plan, created by her, especially for you. You will be able to view videos of the exercises, track your progress, record your results, and communicate any concerns with your chiropractor through the Physitrack app.
Do I have to get my joints "cracked"?
An adjustment is a quick and shallow force, directed into a joint and is often, but not always, accompanied by a popping sound. Traditional chiropractic adjustments can be very helpful for a lot of health concerns and can help a specific joint move more freely throughout its range of motion. The traditional chiropractic adjustment is only one of many methods that our chiropractors can use to treat your condition. Many conditions may benefit from modalities such as Active Release Techniques (massage type treatment), gentle joint mobilizations, instrument assisted adjustments such as Graston Technique, dry needling/ IMS acupuncture or a host of other treatment modalities. It is important to discuss with your clinician any concerns or wishes you have during your treatment planning stage, so that you are fully informed and in agreement with the proposed treatment course.
What type of techniques do our Chiropractors use?
Chiropractic care at Energize Health is so much more than manual adjustments!
There has never been a single treatment method that works for everyone. All people, conditions, injuries and bodies are different and often respond differently to treatment. To help you achieve the results you are looking for, our chiropractors are certified in various manual therapy techniques. Your clinician will determine which techniques have the greatest chance of helping you reach your health goals, and be able to adjust her treatments immediately to ensure that you continue to achieve your health goals and reduce any pain you may be feeling.
Some of the techniques and training our chiropractors may use to help you include:
- Chiropractic Adjustment
- Dry Needling / Acupuncture / IMS
- Graston Technique
- Laser Therapy
- Active Release Technique (ART)
- Shockwave Therapy
How long will I need to receive treatment?
Starting chiropractic care is not a life long sentence. While beneficial to most people as an ongoing part of a healthy lifestyle, our goal is to bring you back to a state of health where you will no longer need treatment at our clinic. Depending on your condition, our chiropractors will often achieve a significant reduction of pain and discomfort in 1 or 2 sessions and can usually help you achieve a complete resolution in a matter of weeks.
As a general guideline, if you are suffering from a new condition, and it has only been a brief period, you will require less treatments and find relief much quicker.
If you are suffering from a chronic, ongoing, decades old injury, expect your amount of treatments required to be more significant to achieve lasting improvement of your symptoms.
Your initial appointment will be approximately an hour in length and subsequent appointments are 15 to 30 minutes in length. This additional time allows our chiropractors to incorporate a variety of techniques to ensure you feel better in the most efficient and safest way possible.
